Bruins Fall to Warren Wilson in Regular Season Finale

The Bob Jones University women's basketball team battled until the final possession, but came up short in a 50-47 road loss to Warren Wilson College on Monday evening in Asheville, North Carolina.

As the game got underway, the Bruins struggled to find rhythm early, shooting just one of 12 in the first quarter. Turnovers and second-chance opportunities allowed the Owls to gradually stretch the lead late as Warren Wilson built a 9-3 advantage.

The Bruins worked to close the gap in the second quarter. Faith Hayward sparked the offense with a layup in the paint before Jenna Brooks knocked down a go-ahead three-pointer midway through the quarter to give the Bruins their first lead at 10-9. But Warren Wilson answered quickly and pushed the margin to 25-17 at halftime.

After the halftime break, Warren Wilson extended its lead to 11 points with an early three-pointer. Through the next seven minutes, the Bruins worked to close the gap, and with just under two minutes left in the third quarter, found themselves trailing by a single point.

Going into the fourth quarter, the Bruins refused to back down and worked to keep the score close. With 35 seconds left, Anna Layne Wylder sank her fourth three-pointer of the night to bring Bob Jones within three. Unfortunately, a last-minute shot didn't fall, and the game ended in favor of Warren Wilson 50-47.

Wylder finished the game leading the Bruins with 15 points, while Keely Price finished with a double double of 10 points and 16 rebounds.

"We didn't execute as well as we needed to tonight," said Assistant Coach Sha'Ron Brunson following the game. "We are going to work on cleaning up a few things to get ready for what's next."

With the conclusion of the regular season, the women's basketball team will travel to Toccoa Falls, Georgia to play in the NCCAA DII South Region Tournament. The Bruins enter the tournament as the #3 seed and will face #2 Trinity College of Jacksonville at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
