The Bruins fell to the Trinity College of Jacksonville Eagles 6-7 tonight on the road to begin their 2026 season.
After a very quick scoreless first inning, it was the Bruins that got on the board first in the top of the second. Freshman Jacksonville native Preston Cox, in his first collegiate at-bat, struck a home run for the first run of the Bruins season. The Eagles countered, however, with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead.Â
Tillman Padgett started on the mound today for the Bruins and pitched four innings allowing three runs on only three hits. He was able to strike out seven batters.
While allowing four more runs across the sixth and seventh innings, the Bruins were held scoreless and found themselves down 7-1 going into the top of the ninth inning. After a lead off line-out, Preston Cox struck out but reached first base on a dropped third strike, and this is where the comeback begins. Angelo Gomez was next and reached on a fielder's choice and both runners were safe on an error. Another error after Elijah Medrano hit it brought in Cox to make it 7-2. After the second out of the inning, Henry Rumble slapped a two-RBI double to center field scoring Gomez and Medrano. Evan Johnson followed that with a RBI single that scored Rumble. The Bruins now find themselves down only 7-5. After a hit-by-pitch and another infield error by the Eagles, the bases were loaded. Zac Tyre steps up to the plate and was also hit by a pitch which scored Johnson from third. Unfortunately for the Bruins, the magical comeback stopped there and they fell in a close 6-7 loss to begin their season.
Henry Rumble and Evan Johnson both had two hits in the game. Rumble finished with two runs batted in and Johnson had one. Zac Tyre, Preston Cox, and Elijah Medrano all finished with one RBI as well.
They are back on the field tomorrow for a double-header against the Eagles. The games are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
