Baseball Team Opens Weekend Series with Back-to-Back Losses

The Bob Jones University Bruins battled throughout Friday's doubleheader against NCCAA South Region opponent Baptist University of Florida but came up short in both contests, falling 10-7 in game one before dropping game two 7-2 at Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina.

The visiting Eagles struck quickly in the opener, plating six runs in the top of the first inning to seize early momentum and to put the Bruins in an immediate deficit.

Bob Jones got on the board in the second inning when Angelo Gomez drove in a run, and the offense continued to chip away. A sacrifice fly from Cayden Kennedy made it 6-2 before the Bruins delivered a strong offensive swing in the fourth inning. An RBI by Preston Cox added the first points of the fourth inning for BJU before Henry Rumble hit a two-run home run, cutting the deficit to 7-5.

Baptist University of Florida added three more runs in the fifth and sixth innings, extending the lead to 10-5. Bob Jones refused to go quietly, scoring in both the sixth and seventh innings, highlighted by Kennedy's solo home run in the final frame, but the rally ultimately fell short as the Eagles secured the 10-7 win to open the weekend series.

After a brief break, the two teams were back on the field for game two of the day.

Baptist University of Florida again jumped ahead early, scoring twice in the first inning and adding four runs in the third.

The Bruins found scoring opportunities but struggled to deliver.

Bob Jones broke through in the third when Preston Cox raced home on an unearned run. The Bruins added another in the fourth as Zac Tyre doubled and later scored on a passed ball to trim the margin to 6-2. The Eagles added one more run in the final frame to finish the game ahead 7-2.

With today's results, the Bruins now sit at 9-22 on the season.

Following the game, Head Coach Kyle Morrison said, "unfortunately, we didn't do our job at the start of each game. The offense did well in game one, but didn't carry it over in game two. We have to get better starts out of our starters."

The Bruins will look to bounce back quickly as the series continues Saturday with another doubleheader against Baptist University of Florida. Highlights for Saturday's game include an Alumni Appreciation Day and Bruins Buddies Day, where our young fans can run the bases after game two.

First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for noon at Conestee Park in Greenville, South Carolina.
