Bruins Complete Their Weekend with Back-to-Back Region Wins

The Bob Jones University Bruins powered their way to a Saturday sweep of NCCAA South Region opponent Baptist University of Florida, using strong performances to secure back-to-back 18-14 and 14-7 victories to wrap up the weekend series 2-2 against the Eagles.

Baptist University of Florida came out strong and opened the game with three runs to take an early lead in the first inning. In the bottom of the first, Zac Tyre doubled to plate two runners and cut the Eagles lead to just one.

After the Eagles extended the lead to 5-2 in the top of the second, the Bruins offense exploded in the bottom of the inning. Sam Gearhart stole home to open the scoring before Evan Johnson singled to send Preston Cox across home plate. An RBI triple from Henry Rumble evened the score at 5-5. Next up to the plate, Jacob Highsmith soared the ball over the fence for a two-run homer to give the Bruins their first lead of the day. An RBI single from Gearhart put the Bruins ahead 8-5 heading into the next inning.

In the third inning, the Eagles knotted the game at eight runs apiece before Rumble put together a two-run home run for Bob Jones.

The score continued to flip-flop in the fourth as BUF took back the lead before the Bruins answered to tie the game 13-13.

In the bottom of the sixth, Rumble doubled to score Evan Johnson and Preston Cox before Highsmith's single allowed Rumble to race home. Tyre's single added two insurance runs to the Bruins score.

The score held, and the Bruins picked up the game one win with a final score of 18-14.

After a brief break, the Bruins and Eagles were back on the pitch for game two of the day. Each team grabbed a first inning run to start the contest.

In the bottom of the second, Evan Johnson singled to score David Henry to tie the game 2-2. Rumble's single allowed two more runners to cross home to put the Bruins in the lead.

As the fifth inning came around, the Bruins added six more runs on four hits to extend their lead to 10-3. They added four more runs in the sixth inning as they looked to close the game out on top.

In the final frame, the Eagles tried to make a comeback, but it came up short, and the Bruins were able to secure the 14-7 game two victory.

"I asked the team what they wanted the rest of the season to look like. They are the ones who write the story," said Head Coach Kyle Morrison. "They did a really great job answering the challenge from last night. Last night was hard. Coming back and seeing what they did with the sticks was really good."

He continued saying, "Ryan Pierce did a phenomenal job on the mound in game two. He did what we ask our pitchers to do: attack the zone early, fill the strike zone, and pitch to contact."

"We have a lot left to give of the season, and the team is pretty pumped."

Up next, the Bruins will travel to Georgia for a three-game series on Friday and Saturday.
