The Bob Jones University volleyball team earned its third win of the season Wednesday afternoon, defeating Spartanburg Methodist College 3-1 at Davis Field House. The Bruins took the first two sets before SMC answered in the third, but BJU closed the match with a fourth-set victory. 

The Bruins opened the match with a strong offensive performance as they moved to an early 10-4 lead. The Pioneers responded to knot the game at 10-10, but the Bruins didn't back down and moved to take the first set with a solid 25-17 set win. 

In a similar start to the opening set, the Bruins pulled to an early five point lead before SMC tied the game at ten points apiece. The Bruins were the first team to hit 20 points, but the Pioneers where just three points behind them keeping the score close. The Bruins were able to hold on and secure the second set with a 25-22 win. 

SMC wasted no time pushing forward in the third set as they took a 9-3 advantage. Throughout the set, the Bruins worked to close the deficit. With the Pioneers sitting on set point, the Bruins went on a three point run before a service error gave the final point to the Pioneers as they took the set 25-23. 

In the fourth set, the Bruins and Pioneers kept the competition close with the Bruins holding the slight advantage throughout. The Bruins pulled out the final 25-22 set win to take the match 3-1. 

With today's win, the Bruins improve to 3-9 on the season and are now 1-1 at home.
