The Bob Jones University Bruins volleyball team continued its winning ways on Tuesday evening, sweeping Warren Wilson College 3-0 at the Davis Field House. With the victory, the Bruins improve to 6-9 on the season and extend their winning streak to four consecutive matches.
After some early service errors by both teams, the Bruins pulled ahead to make a statement with a 25-16 opening set win.Â
In the second set, the Bruins pulled ahead to a 6-3 advantage before the Owls came back to tie the game 7-7. But the Bruins responded with a six point streak to regain the lead. They continued to surge and took a commanding 25-13 set win to move on top 2-0 in the match.Â
As the third frame got started, the Bruins and Owls exchanged early points. Warren Wilson pulled to a 10-7 lead as they took advantage of some miscommunication by the Bruins. Bob Jones came back strong with a scoring run to lead 21-16. Several aces and kills at the end sent the Bruins into the win column with a 25-19 win to complete the sweep.Â
Following the game, Coach Anthony Bennett said, "we were very happy to start our week with a sweep! I want to give a shoutout to Lyndsey Cassell who reached 100 kills on the season tonight, and Blakely Brown who had seven kills and no errors."
He continued saying, "all of our hitters did really well limiting errors which has been a big emphasis in practices for us the past week or so. I am super proud of all the girls for a great team win. We're looking forward to a couple more games the rest of the week!"
Up next the Bruins will travel to Georgia for a Thursday night game at the University of Toccoa Falls before hosting Alice Lloyd College on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Davis Field House.Â
