Box Score
The BJU Bruins soccer team has been dominating opponents for the past month, and it seemed as though nothing would stand in the way of their 6 game winning streak. The team was coming off an emotional come from behind win against Chowan University on Friday night and looked to continue their winning ways against the Columbia International University Rams on Saturday afternoon. In the last meeting between the two teams, the Bruins dominated possession and blanked the Rams 4-0 in Greenville.
From the opening kickoff, the Bruins looked a bit sluggish and fatigued as the team came out slow. Despite their play, the Bruins were able to control possession and made several good runs on the net throughout the first half. At the midway point of the half, Travis Woodham continued his dominant scoring streak by netting a goal to put the Bruins up 1-0. That would be the lone goal in the first half as the Bruins took the lead into the break.
"Our speed of play was poor during the first half," Coach McCormick said. "We came out flat and paid for it."
In the second half, the Bruins play continued to just be mediocre as the team showed signs of fatigue as the game wore on. The Bruins desperately sought for an insurance goal to increase their lead, but were not able to find the back of the net. Later on in the second half, the Rams capitalized on a good offensive rush to tie the game at 1-1. As the final buzzer sounded, the Bruins found themselves in very unfamiliar territory as the team entered their first overtime period of the season. Both teams sought to come away with the goal but in the end the score would remain a 1-1 tie.
"You have to give credit to their team," Coach McCormick said. "They played very organized on both sides of the ball and played well as a team."
The Bruins are now 8-4-1 on the season and will look to rest and recuperate before welcoming in Tennessee Temple on Monday night.
