Bruins Cruise by Crusaders 10-1

Team jumps out to quick start and overpowers Tennessee Temple

Box Score
The October night air was crisp and cold. Despite the frigid conditions, the Bruins came out red hot against the Tennessee Temple Crusaders on Monday night. Coming into the match the Bruins had not lost since September 22nd. Despite battling to a draw against Columbia International this past weekend, the Bruins were ready to get back on track as they welcomed the Crusaders to Alumni stadium.

From the opening kickoff the Bruins controlled the tempo and maintained excellent possession throughout the first half. It wouldn’t take long for the Bruins to break into the scoring column as Tommy Sims bent a beautiful goal in off of a free kick to put the Bruins on the board in the 5th minute of play. Less than five minutes later, Matt Moore scored off of a nice assist from Jordan Allen to make it 2-0. Minutes later, Moore scored his second goal of the match as he netted a great goal off of a free kick. The offensive onslaught continued as the Bruins added goals from David Overly and Jordan Allen to go into the half up 5-0.

“The guys were fired up and ready to come out and play,” Coach McCormick said. “Our speed and rhythm of play were great. We were able to create a lot of good chances on goal.”

In the second half, the Bruins continued to keep the pressure on the Crusaders as the team maintained poise and control by executing great ball movement in setting up easy scoring opportunities. Less than three minutes into the second half, Mark Sterr popped a shot over the Crusaders goalie to put the Bruins up 6-0. From there the Bruins never looked back as Mark Bonikowsky, Ben Sexton, Tommy Sims and Stephen Lovelace scored for the Bruins to make it 10-0 with only a few minutes remaining.

With less than a minute to play, Crusaders forward Ezequiel Nunez was fouled in the box and netted the penalty kick to prevent the shutout. The final buzzer handed the Bruins a 10-1 victory, their 7th in their last eight games.

“It helps a lot when you have a team that is pushing each other and encouraging each other,” Coach McCormick said. “They were staying focused and still focusing on playing as a team and continuing to play quickly.”

With the victory the Bruins move to 9-4-1 on the season. The Bruins will relish in this win as the team has played three matches in the last four days. The Bruins will rest up for the remainder of the week before welcoming Northland International University for the last home game of the year on Saturday night.
