The Bruins continued their road trip in Alabama on Saturday, fresh off of a loss on Friday night. The team was fatigued after having to travel from Georgia to Alabama before their matchup against Concordia College. This game could be described as the "Tale of Two Halves" as the Bruins and Hornets took the field in Selma, Alabama.
The fatigue was definitely a factor as the Bruins came out sluggish from the opening kickoff. The Hornets and Bruins battled back and forth in a somewhat sloppy affair as each team struggled to maintain possession. The Bruins were able to capitalize on several miscues from the Hornets defense as Ryan McCarty and Travis Woodham both netted goals for the Bruins. Despite the strong offensive output, the Bruins also yielded two goals in the first half making it 2-2 at the break.
"We just came out sluggish," Coach McCormick said. "We did better at ball possession and made some great strides on the offensive side of the ball."
The second half would be a completely different story as the Bruins seemed to not be able to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. Again the team's long road trip was playing a factor as the Bruins clearly were running out of gas in the late stages of the game. The Hornets took advantage of the sluggish play of the Bruins and notched two more goals. The Bruins did everything they could to get back into the game, but again the team fatigue made it difficult to score. As the game concluded, the Bruins found themselves on the losing end of a 4-2 match.
The loss makes it three straight for the Bruins, who are looking to rebound after a long road trip. The Bruins will have the weekend to rest before welcoming Toccoa Falls on Tuesday night.
