The Bruins continued their 2-game weekend road trip with a matchup against the Tennessee Temple Crusaders. The Bruins were riding a three-game winning streak and have outscored their opponents 8-2 during their winning streak. The Crusaders came into the match with a 3-13 record having lost four of their last five matches. The two teams met twice in the 2012 season with the Bruins winning handily 7-3 and 10-1 in those two matches. The Bruins were looking for their fourth win in a row as they took the field against the Crusaders.
At the start, the Bruins controlled possession and were able to execute their combination play to generate shots. In the opening minutes, the Bruins had several great opportunities and were controlling the tempo of the game. It didn't take long for the Bruins offense to get rolling as Ryan McCarty scored on a beautiful shot to put the Bruins up 1-0. The Bruins smelled blood and were out for more as the team kept up their relentless pressure. The Crusaders had several runs of their own, but Bruins goalie Joseph Wooster made several great saves throughout the first half. Vince Wilson extended the Bruins lead with a rocket shot past the goalkeeper to put the Bruins up 2-0 at the half.
"Defensively we have cleaned things up," Coach Jesse McCormick said. "We are consistently moving well on offense and creating quality chances to score."
In the second half, the Bruins kept up the offensive intensity as they looked to grow their lead. Travis Woodham notched his 6th goal of the season to increase the Bruins lead to 3-0. With the game in hand, the Bruins continued to squelch any offensive run of the Crusaders as the team yielded very few good opportunities to Tennessee Temple. Eric Moisant put the exclamation point on the Bruins dominant performance with a goal to increase the lead to 4-0.
The Crusaders looked for any way to get back into the game, but were dominated by the Bruins on offense and defense. As the final buzzer sounded, the Bruins had won their fourth straight match with a 4-0 win over TTU.
"Things are starting to come together well for us," Coach McCormick said. "Our guys are looking forward to training this week and the match next weekend against Chowan."
Vince Wilson had one goal and one assist for the Bruins, while Matt Moore continued to rack up points by adding two more assists in this match. Travis Woodham, Eric Moisant and Ryan McCarty each had one goal while Ryan Beadles picked up one assist. Joseph Wooster completed his 5th clean sheet of the season. With the win, the Bruins improve to 9-6-1 on the year. The Bruins will close out their regular season next weekend as they travel to North Carolina for a match with Chowan University.
