Hawks Soar Over Bruins

Team drops fifth straight in 72-65 loss to Huntingdon

Box Score
The Bruins entered their final game of the regular season against the Huntington College Hawks on Saturday night. The Bruins were in the midst of a four game losing streak and were desperate to get back on track. The most recent loss coming on Friday night against Pensacola Christian College. The Huntington Hawks were in the midst of a three-game losing streak and the team had lost 9 of their last ten games. The two teams were playing their final game of the regular season and were looking to end on a good note.

From the opening tip, the Bruins were able to work each possession and generate open looks. Evan Brondyke carried the team with sleek shooting from behind the arc to keep the Bruins in the game. The Bruins were again bitten by the injury bug as Darnel Antoine went down with a knee injury. The Hawks countered with good offensive play and the two teams kept it close throughout the remaining minutes of the first half. As the half concluded, the Bruins had a slim 33-32 lead.

"We showed a lot of poise when Darnel went out, " Coach Ring said. "We got great looks at the basket but it wouldn't go down."

As the second half began, the Bruins continued to go neck and neck with the Hawks. Kyle Turner proved to be a key asset in this game with big play from the post. Turner recorded 16 points and 15 rebounds. The Hawks countered with great shooting from Ryan Petty and Courtnee Edgar. In the waning minutes, the Hawks began to build a slim lead over the Bruins. A few costly mistakes by the Bruins proved to be the difference-maker as the final buzzer handed the Bruins their fifth straight loss.

"It was a tough final regular season game for us." Coach Ring said. "We gave in to some pressure in the 2nd half, but we finished the game strong."

Evan Brondyke led the way for the Bruins with 20 points. The team shot 37% from the field for the game and a mere 20% from behind the arc. The Bruins fought hard and won the rebounding margin 44-41. With the loss, the Bruins finish their inaugural season at 6-23. The team will rest and recoup for the next few weeks before playing in the NCCAA D1 South Regional Tournament.
