Bruins Drop Fourth Straight in 5-0 Loss

Three first half goals allow Chowan University to shutout BJU at home

Box Score
The Bruins had their opportunities to score on Monday night, but it was the Chowan Hawks who made the most of their opportunities on the way to a 5-0 shutout. "We have to keep stuff on frame," Coach Jesse McCormick said. "They had 10 shots on the match we had 16 and I don't think a single one was on frame. We've got to do a better job than that."

This would be the last home match of the 2014 season for the Bruins as the team was looking to get back on track after losing their last three matches. The team would honor their two seniors Joseph Wooster and Ryan Beadles who were playing their last match in front of the Bruin faithful at Alumni Stadium.

The Bruins defense struggled against Chowan
University in a 5-0 defeat.
In the opening minutes, the Bruins came out strong with good possession and generated open lanes to attack. Despite their efforts, the team was not able to capitalize as shots sailed wide or were deflected on the way to the goal. The Hawks countered in the 14th minute as Christian Funes took a through pass and buried it to make it 1-0.

Five minutes later, freshman standout Terell Williamson capitalized on a broken defensive play to beat Wooster one-on-one to make it 2-0 Chowan. Williamson struck again in the 38th minute to give the Hawks a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.

"We were poor on some of our clearances and decision making," Coach McCormick said. "Both teams were going back and forth but they took advantage of their opportunities and we didn't."

In the second half, the Bruins looked recharged and were ready to climb back into the game. Their hopes were squelched 46 seconds into the 2nd half as Christian Funes buried a header to put the Hawks up 4-0.

The Bruins had several chances to get back into the game including two wide open misses in front of the net, but still they couldn't score. In the 67th minute, Terell Williamson completed the hat trick to give the Bruins their fourth straight loss in a 5-0 defeat.

"I really felt like the score doesn't really show the story of this game," Coach McCormick said. "I think the last twenty minutes of the game we played really well and getting good movement. We need to keep doing that in games ahead."

With the loss, the Bruins fall to 5-10 on the season. The team will have some days of practice as they prepare for the final two-game road trip of the season. Next up, the Bruins will play their last conference game on the road against Columbia International University on November 6.
