Southeastern hands BJU men's soccer 2nd straight loss

Box Score
The Bruins were looking for a measure of revenge against the Southeastern University Fire. Instead, the Bruins found themselves on the losing end of a 3-0 match in Florida on Friday night. "We are taking steps in the right direction," Bruins coach Jesse McCormick said. "We just need to be more consistent in executing what needs to happen on both sides of the ball." The Bruins and Fire have met twice in the regional playoffs (2012, 2013) with Southeastern winning both matches. The Bruins were coming off a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon, and were looking to rebound as they took the field under the Friday night Florida sky.

In the opening minutes, the Bruins kept pace with the Fire as both teams looked to establish possession. In the 20th minute, the Fire broke into the scoring column as Aston Hicks bent a free kick into the back of the net to make it 1-0. The Bruins battled back and looked to get the equalizer. Just before the half, the Fire extended their lead as a rebound opportunity fell to the feet of Tyler Gay who finished the play to allow Southeastern a 2-0 lead at the break.

"They just did a better job than we did of keeping the ball," Coach McCormick said. "We needed to do a better job keeping the ball and with our decision making and support."

In the second half, the Bruins looked to get back into the game and worked through their offensive progressions to advance into the attacking third. Their rally was quickly squelched as Gerriston Craane scored for the Fire to give Southeastern a commanding 3-0 lead.

Despite several attempts, the Bruins couldn't break through the Fire wall as the horn handed the Bruins their second straight loss of the 2014 season. The Bruins were outshot 18-8 for the match as Southeastern controlled the possession rate throughout the game. The team is now 0-2 on the season and will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon as they finish their two-game Florida road trip against rival Clearwater Christian College on Saturday night.
