Box Score The Bruins basketball team is still in search of that elusive win as the Penn State York Nittany Lions handed the Bruins their 11th straight loss with an 85-52 defeat on Saturday afternoon. "We have to learn to play more consistent," Neal Ring said. "Today we got outplayed by a consistent, veteran team and they seem to be able to do what they wanted against us. We have to get better."
The Bruins entered Saturday's game after dropping a tough 67-64 game to Washington Adventist University on Thursday night. The team's last win came all the way back on November 14 as the Bruins came into York, Pennsylvania with a 3-12 record. The Nittany Lions of Penn State York entered the game at 5-6 on the season.
In the opening minutes, the full court pressure of the Nittany Lions proved to be a struggle for the Bruins as the team fell behind 19-9 in the early minutes. After a timeout, the Bruins began to try to chip away at the lead behind buckets from Dustin Killough. Eventually, the Bruins cut the lead down to 8 before the Nittany Lions responded with a 10-1 run to help them close the half on top of the Bruins 40-23.
"We couldn't make our shots and they seemingly couldn't miss," Coach Ring said.
In the second half, the Bruins came out determined to climb back into the game. The team outscored the Nittany Lions 15-12 to start the half, but a 12-5 run later on by Penn State York allowed the team to take control of the game. The Bruins struggled to keep possession, as the turnover bug continued to bite the team in this game. The final buzzer handed the Bruins their 11th straight loss with an 85-52 defeat.
"It was a disappointing loss for us today," Coach Ring said. "We were a bigger team and yet they outrebounded us and outplayed us. Our inconsistent play is something that is continuing to hurt us. We have another tough challenge coming up and we need to get ready for that."
Dustin Killough led the Bruins with 13 points and Ray Holden scored 10. With the loss, the team falls to 3-13 on the season. The Bruins will have a much-needed home stretch as the next 8 games will be played at home in the Davis Field House. Next up, the Bruins will welcome rival Pensacola Christian College on Friday night.
