The Bruins found the edge in a hard-fought 1-0
win over Dalton State College on Friday night.
The Bruins were coming off back-to-back wins over Toccoa Falls College and Reinhardt University and were 4-2 entering Friday's match. The Roadrunners were red-hot having won their last four matches in convincing fashion including an 8-0 victory over Fisk University earlier in the week. Despite the rainy weather, both teams were took the pitch with the hopes of a victory just 90 minutes away.

As the match began, the Bruins and Roadrunners exchanged possession with both trying to establish pace. Each team had opportunities on frame but both goalkeepers were up to the task for their squad making key saves throughout the half.

Despite the opportunities, neither team was able to find the back of the net as the two teams ended the half as they began 0-0.

In the second half, both teams looked to gain the upperhand and break the scoreless draw. The Bruins would strike first as Ryan McCarty found Stephen Grider who buried the shot into the back of the net to give the Bruins the lead 1-0.

The Roadrunners launched into desperation mode for the remainder of the half as the team tried to even the score. The Bruins back line led by senior Travis Woodham kept Dalton State at bay to help preserve the lead. The final whistle gave the Bruins their 3rd straight win as the team celebrated a 1-0 victory on the road.

"Our back line did very well," Coach McCormick said. "It was a great shutout for our team and for Phil in goal."

Stephen Grider scored his 2nd goal of the 2015 season and Ryan McCarty picked up his team-leading 7th assist. Philip Gibble made key saves throughout the entire match to preserve the clean sheet. With the win, the Bruins improve to 5-2 on the season. Next up, the Bruins will welcome cross-state rival Columbia International University for an important conference matchup next Friday night in Greenville.
