Bruins Remain Winless on the Road with Loss to Greensboro College

Box Score
Despite a strong second half, the Bruins closed out their road trip at the Roger Taylor Invitational with a 87-63 loss to Greensboro College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on Saturday afternoon.

"We give GC a lot of credit as they shot the ball well and turned up the pressure on the defensive end," Bruins Coach Neal Ring said.

The Bruins came into the game after suffering a disappointing 87-73 loss to North Carolina Wesleyan on Friday night. The Pride came into the game with a 2-2 record, winning two of their last three games including a convincing 100-74 win over Shenandoah University in their last game.

From the opening tip, the Bruins and Pride exchanged baskets as the score remained close early on. The Pride then used an 11-0 run fueled by Dominic Fumbanks three-point shooting to gain the upper hand. The Bruins couldn't find an answer offensively as GC continued to stretch their lead to double digits.

As the first half began to come to a close, the Bruins were able to get a spark offensively from Quez Fisher as the big man provided solid play in the post while grabbing several rebounds. Still, the Pride answered by remaining on fire from three point range as they took a 51-23 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Bruins turned their offensive strategy into attacking the basket which provided trips to the line. The team shot 90% from the charity stripe as they slowly began to chip away at the Pride lead. The team also picked up the defensive intensity as they stopped the Pride on nine possessions in a row. But still, the Bruins shooting woes continued as the team shot just 30% in the second half, including 22% from behind the arc.

The Pride used a late run to put the game out of reach as they went up by as much as 29 points in the second half. The final buzzer handed the Bruins another road loss with an 87-63 defeat against Greensboro College.

"Turnovers hurt us in the first half but I was happy with things we did in the second half in taking care of the ball and making our free throws," Coach Ring said.

Quez Fisher finished the game with his second straight double-double as the sophmore forward scored 16 points and recorded 11 rebounds in the game. Marshall Riddle was the only other scorer in double figures with 13 points. The Bruins committed 21 turnovers in the game as the team falls to 2-9 on the season and remains winless in road or neutral site contests.

Next up, the Bruins return home as they will host the Emmanuel College Lions on Tuesday night in Greenville, South Carolina.
