Reinhardt Eagles Outlast Bruins 2-0

Team drops 3rd straight in road defeat

Box Score
A goal in each half was enough for the Reinhardt University Eagles as they defeated the Bruins soccer team 2-0 on Saturday night in Waleska, Georgia. This drops the Bruins to 0-3 on the season. "I give Reinhardt a lot of credit for their quality play," Head Coach Jesse McCormick said. "I really believe playing quality opponents is pushing our guys to be better."

The Bruins came into the match on Saturday night after suffering a tough loss to Southern Wesleyan University last Saturday. The Eagles came into the game with a 3-1 record after defeating Martin Methodist College on Monday afternoon.

In the opening minutes, the two teams exchanged scoring chances but both keepers were up to the task. Bruins keeper Andrew Kester was key for the team as he turned away several shots from the Eagles throughout the half. The Eagles finally found the chink in Kester's armor in the 19th minute of action as Zach McCown scored on a well-placed strike to give Reinhardt a 1-0 advantage. The Bruins tried to counter, but the Eagles refused to allow the Bruins to get looks on frame. At the half, the Bruins trailed 1-0.

As the second half began, the Bruins came out looking for the equalizer but the Eagles defense continued to block opportunities for the Bruins to draw even. Defensively, Andrew Kester continued to turn aside Eagles chances by coming up with several brilliant saves throughout the match. As the game began to draw to a close, the Bruins became that much more desperate and began to go on the attack. Unfortunately, this resulted in a quick counter for the Eagles as Jordan Williams beat Kester on the breakaway to make it 2-0. The Bruins were not able to find an answer as the team fell 2-0 to Reinhardt.

"We created a few good chances but we just couldn't finish," Coach McCormick said. "We're excited to be back home for our match on Tuesday."

The Eagles outshot the Bruins 24-5 throughout the match. Goalkeeper Andrew Kester made 13 saves on the night as the Bruins fell to 0-3 on the season. Next up, the Bruins will welcome Montreat College to Greenville on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
