The Bob Jones University Bruins jumped out to a 14-1 lead to begin the game and never looked back as the Bruins picked up a 99-82 road win over Toccoa Falls College on Thursday night in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. Six players scored in double figures for the Bruins as the team has now won two of their last three games.
"This was a nice team win for us tonight," Bruins Head Coach Neal Ring said. "We had a great start and never let up. Credit Toccoa Falls though as they never gave up and fought back at the end."
The Bruins bounced back after a tough loss to Montreat College on Monday night. The Bruins and Screaming Eagles met earlier in the 2016-17 season with the Bruins capturing an 85-78 win in Greenville. As the Bruins took the court, the team was looking to climb back to .500 in region play.
Dustin Killough sparked the Bruins offense to a quick start as the junior guard knocked down several three-point bombs as the team jumped out to a 14-1 lead. The team continued to ride momentum as they built the lead to 24-6. Defensively, the Bruins forced the Screaming Eagles into tough looks and limited second-chance opportunities.
With just over five minutes to play in the half, Dustin Killough hit his 5th three-point shot of the half to give the Bruins a 40-18 lead. The team was on fire offensively as they shot 60% from the field and 46% from behind the arc in the half. As the halftime buzzer sounded, the Bruins had silenced the hometown crowd as they took a 48-26 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Bruins picked up where they left off and again came out with an early run to increase their lead. Quez Fisher hammered home a dunk to further energize the Bruins scoring attack. The team got an added boost off the bench from Chapman Harwood and Cooper George as the pair combined for 29 points while shooting a perfect 13-13 from the free throw line. Both finished in double figures for the Bruins on the night.
As the game began to draw to a close, the Bruins offense continued to pour it on. Corey Turner knocked down a three point shot to give the Bruins a 79-48 lead. The Screaming Eagles tried to mount one last run but it was too little too late as the Bruins picked up a big road win 99-82.
Dustin Killough led the Bruins with 19 points while Cooper George finished with 15, Chapman Harwood with 14, Justin Matthews with 13 and Quez Fisher and Corey Turner each finishing with 12. The Bruins outrebounded the Screaming Eagles 39-24 while shooting an incredible 88% as a team from the charity stripe. With the win, the Bruins improve to 4-15 on the season and 2-2 in region play.
Next up, the Bruins will return home for the first time since December 9 as the team welcomes Warren Wilson College to the Davis Field House on Saturday evening.
