Ellenwood Leads Bruins to 69-62 Victory over Erskine College

Box Score
Nate Ellenwood led the Bruins with 25 points as the team defeated Erskine College 69-62 on Monday night in the Davis Field House. It was a statement win for the program as the team defeated their 2nd NCAA DII program in the last week to move to 3-6 on the season.

"We are really starting to see the offense pick up and we are playing good team basketball," Bruins Head Coach Burton Uwarow said. "We've played some tough teams, but we have the opportunity to get back to an even record before the break which is what we are working towards."

The Bruins balanced offense presented problems for Erksine College all night as the team shot 47% from the field. Four Bruins scored in double figures while the Bruins defense stood strong against the Flying Fleet offense.

Erskine played most of the game in a 3-2 zone trying to force the Bruins to work the ball inside. The Bruins still hit 11 three pointers on the night as the team generated half of their offense from beyond the arc. It really was a team effort as the Bruins big men set screens to free the guards in key spots around the perimeter.

The Bruins led for nearly the entire game as they opened up a lead 5-2 in the opening minutes and didn't let up until the Fleet tied them with a minute and thirty seconds to go in the contest. Nate Ellenwood got an offensive rebound off of a missed three, and put it back in to regain the lead. After a missed three by the Fleet, Jayson Barnhart converted a tough layup to give the Bruins some cushion with just 50 seconds to go. Heading down to the other end, Barnhart took a charge and drew an offensive foul to seal the game 69-62.

Nate Ellenwood had 25 points and 9 rebounds while Jayson Barnhart finished with 16 points. Dustin Killough scored 14 points and Justin Matthews finished with 10 as the Bruins have won two of their last three games.

Next up, the Bruins will battle Piedmont International University on December 1 in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
