Box Score The Lady Bruins were firing on all cylinders on Saturday night as the team dominated from start to finish in a 99-42 win over Piedmont International University. "We were able to remain clam in every situation tonight," Bruins captain Hannah Tompkins said. She finished with a solid game of 19 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds as the team moves to 13-16 on the season and 8-2 in region play.
The Bruins jumped out on a 10-0 run by pushing the ball in transition and making quick decisions on the fast break. The team forced Piedmont into several turnovers early on by switching their defensive sets and applying pressure in the key. The defense was quite effective as the Lady Bruins forced PIU into 18 turnovers on the night.
The team was dealt a serious blow as starting forward Amanda Bates went down with an injury just before the end of the half. She did not return in the game. Despite two buzzer-beaters in the first and second quarter by Piedmont, the Bruins went into the half with a comfortable 48-24 lead.
In the second half, the Bruins picked up where they left off as they continued to pour in the points. The team worked the ball around and created open looks for everyone as each player on the roster scored in the game. Piedmont tried to climb back into the game, but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Bruins won handily 99-42.
Sha'Ron Brunson led the team with 21 points while Hannah Tompkins finished with 19 and Kylee Leffew scored 17 off the bench. With the win, the Bruins improve to 13-16 on the season. Before regionals next weekend, the Bruins will play their final regular season game on Tuesday night as they host Johnson and Wales University. It is also senior night as the team will honor Hannah Tompkins, their lone senior on the squad this year.
