Bruins Shutout Lions 4-0

Box Score
After a tough losing streak, the Bruins bounced back with their second straight win as the team shutout John Wesley University 4-0 on Saturday night at Alumni Stadium.  had

"Putting four goals in the back of the net was certainly a positive for us," Bruins Head Coach Jesse McCormick said. "We were able to get the shutout and I'm really proud of the guys for that."

The Bruins came out fighting from the opening whistle. In the first minute of the game, Jared Simmons received a through ball and slide it right past the Lions keeper to put the Bruins up 1-0. The team continued to work the ball into the attacking third for shots, but the score remained close. Although the Bruins gave up 17 shots on target, the team's defensive line stood strong to keep the Lions off the board.

Just before the half, the Bruins would increase their lead as Jesse Rush beat the Lions backline on a breakaway and snuck a shot by the oncoming keeper that went in on the far post side of the goal. This gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, Jared Simmons would score his second goal of the match off a beautiful cross from Karl Walker as the Bruins were up 3-0. Freshman Jacob Kester netted his first goal as a Bruin to seal the match for the team. Kester received the ball at the 18' yard line and fired a shot into the opposite corner to help secure a 4-0 win for the Bruins.

"We're thankful for the end result but our consistency wasn't there," Coach McCormick said. "The game was a little bit ugly and hopefully we come in these next games and be sharp from the opening whistle."

Jared Simmons scored two goals on the night as the Bruins improve to 3-5 on the season. Keepers Isaac Landry and Andrew Kester combined for the clean sheet as Landry made 12 saves on the night and Kester 5 in the match. Next up, the Bruins will welcome Columbia International University on Tuesday night to Alumni Stadium.
