It's championship week! After winning the NCCAA DII South Region Tournament, the Bruins men's soccer team enter this week's National Tournament as the #1 seed. Pool play of the NCCAA DII National Tournament kicks off Tuesday afternoon at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida and the top teams from each pool will face each other in the championship game on Saturday, November 20.
"We have worked so hard to have this opportunity, and I am so proud of how we have remained together through adversity all season," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "We've been waiting for this opportunity since last year's upset and we are eager to show how far we have come. We enter the tournament confident in our ability but no overlooking any other team."
The Bruins enter this tournament after beating Trinity Baptist College 2-0 in the South Region Championship on November 6. 2021 was the best season in program history as the Bruins finished 14-2-2 overall and went undefeated in region play.
The Bruins will face #5 Boyce College Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the first game of the tournament. The Boyce College Bulldogs finished the season 7-8-1 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play.
After having Wednesday off of games, the Bruins will finish up pool play by taking on #4 Manhattan Christian College at 5 p.m. on Thursday. The Thunder head into the tournament after finishing their season 13-6-0 overall.
This is the first time the Bruins have faced either opponent. The men's soccer team looks to capture their second-ever national championship. Their last title win came in 2016 after they defeated the North Central University Rams 2-0 in a hard fought match. Last season, the #1 Bruins were eliminated from the National Tournament after #4 Randall University scored the game winner with just three minutes remaining in double-overtime.
"We are thankful to represent the Lord and our school this week and hope to make everyone proud," said Fulton.
