More Team Records and National Qualifying Standards for Men's Track & Field at Montreat Invitational

The men's track & field team picked up a national qualifying standard and several team records as the Bruins competed at the Montreat College Invitational in Montreat, North Carolina. Bob Jones competed in a field of other NCAA DI, DII and NAIA schools such as Wofford College, UNC Asheville, College of Charleston, host Montreat College and others.

"Weather conditions were tough to overcome as we had to deal with high winds," said Head Coach Ken Roach. "But it was great to see improvements made by the team."

Highlighting the first day of competition was Douglas Stone finishing fourth in the 10k with a national qualifying time of 32:44.85. Stone's race was a new personal record and set a new school record previously held by Joe Patchen in 2019.

In the field events, David Green hit a huge personal record in the discus with a distance of 36.04 meters, just narrowly missing the finals. Setting a new Bruins record, Green's throw was five meters past the previous record back in 2019. Green also saw improvement in the javelin event throwing 36.51 meters.

Back on the track, Luke Fressel broke another team record in the 100 meter run crossing the line in 11.52. He qualified for nationals last weekend, but was able to run an even faster 200 meter this weekend finishing at 23.39. "They have been working really hard in practice, and this was a big run for the sprints," said Coach Roach.

Some other notables from the weekend, Issac Vera Cruz ran a 2022 best in the 100 meter with a time of 12.57. Conrado Martinez Ferro also set a new season best in the 400 meter with a time of 57.66. Through 12 laps around the track, Marc Johnson ran a 17:29.08 5k race for his top time.
