Bruins Begin Outdoor Season with a Bang in Myrtle Beach

The Bruins track and field teams began the 2026 outdoor season with a bang this weekend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina getting several personal bests and setting the tone for is great season.

"Our team commitment toward each other set this team's performance expectations," Head Coach Ken Roach said. "We had many personal bests and high quality performances this weekend. We still need to stay patient and discipline over the few meets as we build toward post season and avoid being content this early." 

The action began on Friday with the women's and men's javelin throw and the women's and men's 100 meter dash. The Bruins were represented by Abi Woo and Sam Ashley in the javelin where Woo set a personal best. Bri Felter was the lone sprinter for the women's 100 meter dash, and Will Stark, Leo Mota, and Kyle Williams all sprinted in the men's.

  • Women's 100 Meter Dash: Bri Felter - 13.56 seconds
  • Men's 100 Meter Dash: Will Stark - 10.90 seconds | Leo Mota - 11.06 seconds | Kyle Williams - 11.67 seconds
Kate Amato was the next Bruin on the track competing in the women's open 800 meter race where she set a personal best. Judah Nash and Jacob Doshier ran for the men's team and Doshier set a personal best time as well. Dillon Koop competed after the 800 meter races and before the distance races in the 110 meter hurdles.

To end the first day, two Bruins distance runners both set personal bests to join the party. Daniel Kyle ran in the men's 5k followed by Lauren Jones in the women's 10k.

Saturday was another day that was full of impressive performances for the Bruins, and not shockingly, it started with two personal bests. Kristen Dodds finished in fourth place in the women's 3k followed by Judah Nash and Jacob Doshier running in a stacked men's 3k. The women's and men's 1500 meter race was next and the Bruins had a representative in both of them.

  • Men's 1500 Meter Race: Joel Batres-Mena - 4:21
The women's and men's 400 meter dash was next, and Will Stark made a splash again for the Bruins finishing fifth overall with a personal best. Emily Walton and Liz Farley raced for the women's team and Farley joined the personal best parade. Walton didn't have much time to relax since she was back on the track right away for the ranked 800 meter race. Joel Batres-Mena was also in the 800 meter race for his second event of the day.

More hurdles were next up for the Bruins where Melody Davis raced in the women's 400 meter hurdles and Misha Gray set a personal best in the men's race with Dillon Koop alongside.

  • Men's 400 Meter Hurdles: Misha Gray - 57.09 seconds | Dillon Koop - 59.17 seconds
The final individual event for the Bruins in the meet was the 200 meter dash. Bri Felter was back on the track representing the women, and per usual, Misha Gray, Leo Mota, and Kyle Williams were racing in the men's 200 meter dash. Gray added his second personal best of the day along with Williams setting his own.

And finally, to end a very busy and successful for the Bruins, two women's relays teams competed. Emily Walton, Kristen Dodds, Liz Farley, and Kate Amato competed in the 4x800 meter relay followed by Bri Felter, Emily Walton, Liz Farley, and Melody Davis in the 4x100 meter relay.

The Bruins now have a week to rest and recuperate before hitting the track again in the 49ers Classic hosted by UNC Charlotte.
