The Bob Jones University beach volleyball team opened the weekend with two duals up in Spartanburg, South Carolina Friday afternoon. BJU fell 5-0 in their first match against Spartanburg Methodist College before sweeping Sandhills Community College to close out their first day of the weekend tournament. With today's results, the Bruins now sit at 5-10 on the season.

"It was a slow start to our morning dual against SMC," said Head Coach Vickie Denny. "I am pleased to see the players reset and decide they were going to step up and not let distractions take away their focus to compete well. During the second dual each pair improved their play and worked well together."

The Bruins came into the weekend on the heels of two road wins against Gaston College on Wednesday.

The Bruins and Pioneers had met once already this season where the Bruins pulled out the 3-2 victory. Coming into this weekend, SMC held the 3-2 series lead over the Bob Jones. As the dual got underway, Spartanburg Methodist got off to a hot start. Several Bruins pairs battled to stay in the match, but it was the Pioneers who pulled away with the 5-0 victory. 

Looking to turn things around, the team was right back at it to face Sandhills Community College. Last season, the Bruins faced the Flyers three times pulling out a win in each meeting and today they added one more win to that record as the Bruins swept SCC to finish with the 5-0 win. The Bruins played well against the Flyers and were able to pull out big wins as each pair finished their match in straight sets.

Tomorrow, the beach volleyball team is back in action as they face the Pioneers and Flyers again at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to close out the weekend.
