Bruins Pick Up Another Win as They Split The Day at Upward Star Center


The Bob Jones University beach volleyball team went 1-1 on the day as they closed out their weekend tournament at the Upward Star Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The Bruins opened the day with a 5-0 sweep over Sandhills Community College before dropping their dual to Spartanburg Methodist College 5-0.

"Though the same results as yesterday, we did play SMC closer today," said Head Coach Vickie Denny. "It was an exciting five pairs match against Sandhills, and in the third set Elisabeth Fickle went back to the serve line and finished it out with five straight tough serves to close out the 5-0 sweep."

After a rain delay, the sun came out and the Bruins got to work against Sandhills Community College for the second time this weekend. Pairs 1-4 picked up a win in straight sets. Holly Taylor and Elisabeth Fickel won their first set 21-19, but the Flyers battled back to win set number two. Looking to complete the sweep, the Elisabeth Fickle came in clutch in her serves to win the third set and see the Bruins take the 5-0 victory. 

In their second dual Saturday afternoon, the Bruins faced Spartanburg Methodist College. After falling to the Pioneers on Friday, the Bruins fought hard against SMC and kept several sets close, but it was the Pioneers who once again pulled out the 5-0 win. 

Up next, the Bruins will close out the 2023 season with a home match Wednesday afternoon against Truett McConnell University.
