Beach Volleyball Team Wraps Up 2023 Season with Home Dual against Truett McConnell


Three seniors (Holly Taylor, Elisabeth Fickel, and Emma Riddle) played their final match as a Bruin as the Bob Jones University beach volleyball team wrapped their 2023 season with a home match against Truett McConnell University from the Upward Star Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. In their season finale, the Bruins fell 4-1 to the Bears ending the year with a 6-12 record. 

"Our goal was to play Truett McConnell better than last time, and we did that," said Head Coach Vickie Denny. "The scores were closer and our pair 2 won in two straight sets."

The Bruins and Bears met on the sand for the final time this season. Back in March, the two programs met where Truett McConnell swept Bob Jones to earn the 5-0 win. 

Truett McConnell got off to a hot start, but the Bruins put up a good fight. Faith Blalock and Andrea Villaverde battled the Bears and had to put in extra work in overtime to win set one 28-26, the highest set score this season. The #2 pair played well in set two to come away with their match win in set two 21-12. This was the only win for the Bruins on Wednesday. 

On the other courts, the Bruins worked to keep things close, but it was Truett McConnell who came out victorious taking home the 4-1 win.

Through the highs and the lows, the 2023 season was one to remember. 

Following the match Coach Denny said, "this has been a season of learning and growing since several of our players were new to the beach game. We are thankful for everyone's hard work all season and look forward to building our young program as we move forward."
