The Bruins finished their regional tournament yesterday in Augusta, Georgia and came in third place behind the region winners Columbia International University and runners-up Paine College. Upon consideration by the NCCAA, the Bruins have still received an at-large bid to compete at the national tournament in Palm Coast, Florida in just a few weeks.
Though the Bruins didn't necessarily bring their "A-game" at the regional tournament, Coach Scott believes that the back-nine of round two was the difference in receiving the bid. The team battled through tough conditions and played until the end.
"It is an honor to receive such an invitation and is evidence of the hard work our team put in during the off-season," Head Coach Denny Scott said upon hearing the news. "They came ready to compete right from the start of the fall season and posted scores that were worthy of consideration."
Brandon Autry won the individual region championship and qualified to play as an individual, but now will travel down with the rest of the team to compete for a national championship. The NCCAA National Tournament is held at Hammoch Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Florida October 20-22. The Bruins will be competing against Asbury University, Bethel University, Cedarville University, Columbia International University, Malone University, Ottawa University Arizona, University of Northwestern, and Wayland Baptist University.
Coach Scott closed by saying this: "We are determined to give our best effort at Nationals to represent Bob Jones University and to bring glory and honor to the Lord for this opportunity he has given us."
