The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has named Bob Jones University Bruins cross country coach Ken Roach as the men's cross country National Coach of the Year for Division II.
This is the fifth time in five years that Roach has been awarded this honor.
Even in the midst of personal trial this season, Ken Roach led this team with resilience and perseverance. After loading the front half of the schedule with meets this season, Roach set up his team perfectly to have their peak race at the national championship race. The men's team was able to dominate the field for the program's 10th straight national championship and the women's team ran so strong and finished as the runners-up.
"Coach showed strength through a lot this season," team captain Joel Batres-Mena said. "After what he went through, it is by God's grace that he is still able to be here with us. He could have decided to not come back and continue resting, but his love for the sport and for us really drove him to be there for us, and that really did impact the team a lot. His strength and perseverance motivated us to want to win the 10th title."
BJU is a NCCAA Division II member featuring 13 varsity programs and over 200 student-athletes.
