Over the weekend, the Bruins competed in the 49ers Classic hosted by UNC Charlotte.
"This weekend wasn't about where we stacked up on paper," Head Coach Ken Roach said. "It was about us as a team and our development."
This meet was loaded with several quality programs such as Furman, Anderson, UNC Charlotte, and more. The Bruins took the chance to race and compete against strong opponents as a way to grow and mature this season.
Day 1, Friday:Â
The day started with the 100 meter dash, where the Bruins had three women and two men compete. Gracie Roland and Briana Felter finished with the exact same time of 13.56 seconds. Mia Marks followed closely behind at 14.01 seconds. For the men, Leo Mota sprinted to a time of 11.46 seconds, and Kyle Williams closed in at 11.95 seconds.
Gracie Roland was back on the track just a little later to race the 400 meter dash with Elisabeth Farley. Roland finished at 1:06.93 and Farley at 1:12.20. For the men's 400 meter dash, Ian Flynn was the only Bruin competing. He put up a strong time of 52.68 seconds.
In a brief pause of running events, Josh Landry competed in the javelin throw where he has cemented himself as the greatest Bruins thrower in program history. Landry finished seventh place overall out of 35 throwers. He threw the javelin 52.12 meters.
Robert Ulsh represented the Bruins in the 400 meter hurdles race. The hurdler finished right under a minute at 59.98 seconds.
Next up was the 1500 meter race for the Bruins. Joy Hast ran a season's best 5:20 to have a strong showing against several D1 runners. Luke Vandenberghe and Daniel Kyle represented the Bruins and both ran a personal best! Vandenberghe beat out Kyle by less than a second. They crossed the finish line at 4:41.85 and 4:42.06.
Joy Hast, after competing in the 1500 meter race, was back racing in the women's 5k alongside Cora Gagne. Hast raced to a 20:02 finishing off her quality meet, and Gagne finished at 22:35 in her first meet of the season.
James Baer raced in the 5k on the men's side and finished at 17:12.
To close out day one, Evan Seaman raced in the anticipated 10k under the lights. Up against a tough field, he set a personal best and finished at 33:10! This was quite the way to close out the first day.

Later, the Bruins had three women run in the 800 meter race. Kristen Dodds came through the line first with a 2:41. Hannah Cohen followed close behind at 2:45 and Elisabeth Farley at 2:54.Â
Joel Batres, in his first outdoor meet of the season, was eager to get the race feeling back. He competed in the men's 800 meter race. He finished with a 2:04 and expects to get faster as the season goes on.
Melody Davis and Briana Felter were both back and racing in the women's 200 meter sprint. Their times were nearly identical as Davis finished in 28.14 seconds and Felter finished at 28.20 seconds.
