Four Bruins Compete in CNU New Captains Classic Combined Events

Four Bruins on the men's track and field team competed in the decathlon hosted by Christopher Newport University.

This is how they did by event:
- 100 Meter Dash: Misha Gray led the way for the Bruins finishing in 11.63 seconds and third place overall. Michael Leonard was next in 11.95 seconds followed by Ian Flynn finishing in 11.96 seconds. John Vance rounded it out finishing in 12.94 seconds.

- Long Jump: Flynn won this event jumping 6.09 meters. Leonard jumped 5.94 meters followed by Gray jumping 5.33 meters. Vance rounded out the Bruins efforts again jumping 5.22 meters.

- Shot Put: This event was very new to these athletes. Leonard threw the farthest for the Bruins at 9.85 meters. Gray was right behind at 9.83 meters followed by John Vance throwing 9.19 meters. Flynn closed with 7.99 meters.

- High Jump: Leonard won this event jumping 1.79 meters. Flynn, Vance, and Gray were all very close to each other. Flynn jumped 1.58 meters, Vance jumped 1.55 meters, and Gray 1.49 meters.

- 400 Meter Dash: Flynn led the way finishing at 52.33 seconds followed by Gray at 52.97 seconds. Leonard followed close behind at 53.29 and Vance closed out at 59.43.

- 110 Meter Hurdles: Gray came through first for the Bruins in 18.8 seconds. Flynn crossed the finish line in 20.84 seconds followed by Leonard in 22.99 seconds. Vance rounded out the efforts in 23.35 seconds.

- Discus Throw: Vance led the way for the Bruins throwing the disc 24.63 meters. Leonard threw 24.26 meters followed closely by Gray throwing 23.21 meters. Ian Flynn closed throwing 15.61 meters.

- Pole Vault: This was the event that the Bruins were nervously looking forward to. Flynn and Leonard tied at 2.63 meters. Gray vaulted to 2.33 meters followed by Vance at 2.03 meters.

- Javelin Throw: Gray won this event throwing 37.53 meters! Leonard threw 35.98 meters followed by Flynn throwing 35.51 meters. Vance closed out with 28.40 meters.

- 1500 Meter: The final event in the decathlon was won by Flynn coming through the line with a time of 4:37. Gray came next at 5:05. Leonard followed at 5:14 with Vance rounding out at 5:56.

In overall standings, Michael Leonard led the way for the Bruins finishing in fifth place. Misha Gray came in sixth place with Ian Flynn right behind in seventh place. John Vance came in ninth place.

These four athletes and the rest of the Bruins now look forward to the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears Open to end their regular season next weekend.
