Women's Track & Field Trenton Goldsmith

Bruins Track and Field Compete at Tryon International's New Indoor Track

The men and women's Bruins track and field teams took the track at the brand new Tryon International Indoor Track facility, and many were able to double up on events.

"The indoor season requires a sharper level of focus because everything is tighter, faster, and more intense, which really tests our concentration," Head Coach Ken Roach said. "The athletes worked hard for solid performances this weekend."

There were three events Friday night before a long and busy day on Saturday. The men's and women's 1k race, 600 meter dash, and the 5k race to close the night.
  • Men's 1k: Joel Batres-Mena - 2:43 | Jacob Dosher - 2:46
  • Women's 1k: Kristen Dodds - 3:42 | Hannah Cohen - 3:53
This distance was a new one for all four Bruins competing, and many didn't quite know how to pace it besides the attack mindset of just getting it done. It was the same kind of thing in the 600 meter dash that came next.
  • Men's 600 Meter: Misha Gray - 1:28 | Dillon Koop - 1:31
  • Women's 600 Meter: Emily Walton - 1:51 | Melody Davis - 1:53 | Liz Farly - 2:01 | Kate Amato 2:02
To finish the night, several Bruins competed in the 5k. Everyone ran well and know how to build going forward. Misfortune struck Daniel Kyle as he took a tumble, but he showed strength finishing the race.
  • Men's 5k: Judah Nash - 16:30 | Daniel Kyle - 18:49
  • Women's 5k: Lauren Jones - 22:06 | Lillian Strange - 22:22 | Cora Gagne - 23:18
There was no rest for the weary to begin Saturday's slate of events as Judah Nash, Daniel Kyle, Jacob Doshier, Lauren Jones, and Cora Gagne were all on the track first competing in the 3k.
  • Men's 3k: Judah Nash - 9:36 | Jacob Doshier - 9:40 | Daniel Kyle - 10:54
  • Women's 3k: Kristen Dodds - 12:31 | Lauren Jones - 12:32 | Hannah Cohen - 13:06 | Cora Gagne - 13:36
A few sprinting events and the mile race followed up the 3k with a Bruin representative in each one.
  • Men's 60 Meter Hurdles: Dillon Koop - 9.33 seconds
  • Men's 60 Meter Dash: Leo Mota - 7.32 seconds
  • Women's 60 Meter Dash: Bri Felter - 8.75 seconds
  • Men's Mile: James Baer (pictured above) - 5:07
  • Women's Mile: Lillian Strange - 6:35
A plethora of Bruins athletes competed in the 400 meter dash and 200 meter dash with the 800 meter race in between.
  • Men's 400 Meter Dash: Misha Gray - 53.28 seconds | Jeremiah Medrano - 53.87 seconds | Harold Wood - 55.92 seconds | Kyle Williams - 58.39 seconds
  • Women's 400 Meter Dash: Emily Walton - 1:07.03 | Melody Davis - 1:07.22
  • Men's 800 Meter Race: Joel Batres-Mena - 2:04
  • Women's 800 Meter Race: Liz Farley - 2:54
  • Men's 200 Meter Dash: Will Stark - 22.82 seconds | Leo Mota - 24.26 seconds | Jeremiah Medrano - 24.60 seconds | Kyle Williams - 25.22 seconds
  • Women's 200 Meter Dash: Bri Felter - 28.86 seconds | Melody Davis - 29.40 seconds | Emily Walton - 30.11 seconds | Liz Farley - 32.59 seconds.
Per usual, the Bruins stacked up the 200 meter dash and raced very well. Will Stark continues to lead the Bruins sprinting squad with another impressive time while Bri Felter does the same on the women's side.

One thrower competed for Bruins at this meet, and that was Josiah Mackey in the shot put. He met his goal for the meet and threw 10.21 meters to close out the efforts in a very busy meet for Bruins Track and Field.

"We're just getting started, and we know there's more to improve as we build momentum," Coach Roach said. "This team is deeply grateful for the blessing of God in our lives, guiding us to rise higher than we think is possible."

The Bruins travel to Liberty University next weekend to compete in the Liberty Open against some high quality competition before getting ready for indoor nationals that is under a month away.
