Eleven Outdoor Track and Field Athletes Named NCCAA Scholar-Athletes

For their efforts in the classroom, the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has given Scholar-Athlete honors to 11 Bob Jones University Bruins outdoor track and field athletes. The recognition is given to student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.40 cumulative GPA and are a junior, senior, or graduate student.

"I am thrilled these athletes show their pride in this university in all areas, not just sports," said Head Coach Ken Roach. "Sports do end but education lasts a lifetime. The time management devoted around practices and academics is exceptional for these students. They have a strong and consistent work ethic, and it shows with being a scholar-athlete."

Seven members of the women's team earned the honor this season. Kinesiology major Emily Walton, Educational Studies major Melody Davis and Nursing major Bri Felter were named as outdoor track and field scholar-athletes for the first time. Kinesiology major Abigail Woo, Health Sciences major Kate Amato, Biology major Lauren Jones, and Nursing major Kristen Dodds have all been given this honor for the second time.

The four men named scholar-athletes have four different majors. For the juniors, Daniel Kyle is a Multimedia Journalism major and Kyle Williams is a Kinesiology major. This is the second time being given this recogniton for seniors Misha Gray, who is a Criminal Justice major, and Public Accounting major Luke VanDenBerghe.

BJU is a NCCAA DII member featuring 13 varsity programs and nearly 200 student-athletes.
