Lauren Jones made history last night at the NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships with a stellar second-place finish in the women's 10k becoming only the second All-American in the program's history. It has been nine years since Kaitlyn Hummel became the first All-American with her third place finish the 1500 meter race. Jones's second place finish makes her the highest finisher ever for Bruins women's track and field.

"I am still letting her performance soak in," Head Coach Ken Roach said. "She just came off winning the highest academic award at the Brody's, and then she walked out on the track with a field of NCCAA DI athletes and put on a masterpiece of a performance."

As the starting gun was nearing, Jones warmed up knowing exactly how she had to run the race to finish in the top three. She carefully studied the field and ended up running the race to perfection. For all 25 laps around the track in the 10k, Jones played a position game battling with two other runners. Every single time that one of the two trailing her tried to pass, she surged and closed the door of opportunity. Jones made the difference in the race on her straights and was able to create separation each time. She never let the two girls pass her though they tried many times. With 24 laps down and one to go, Jones split her fastest lap to finish the race and her collegiate career strong. She finished in second place with a time of 40:34 which is a 59-second personal best.

"Lauren is tough, determined and defines excellent," Coach Roach continued. "She is the type of fighter this team wants all its athletes to be. She etched herself in history tonight with an NCCAA All-American finish and I am so incredibly proud of her!"
