Bruins Beat Eagles in High Scoring Affair

Box Score The Bruins won the high-scoring battle with Baptist University of Florida by the final score of 96-91.

"Road wins like this are always tough," Head Coach Tony Miller said. "I'm proud of everyone's effort tonight."

As the first half began, the Bruins were cold out the gate, and that allowed the Eagles to build an early double-digit lead in the first three minutes of the game. The Bruins stuck around, though, and were able to tie it right back up with 12 minutes remaining in the half after a layup by Shad Vander Hart. The two teams traded blows until there were three minutes left in the first half, but then the Bruins ended on a 13-2 run to take a 51-38 lead going into halftime.

The second half began just as the first half did: the Eagles were hot and the Bruins were cold. After giving up a 9-0 run, the Bruins found themselves up only four points. The Bruins lead never got over six until the final minutes of the game, and the Eagles even took the lead midway through the half. The ability to answer and remain calm under pressure kept the Bruins in the game. The Eagles brought the score down to one point with two and a half minutes to go, but a Drew Cannon three pointer and five late points by Trevor Pittman put the game on ice. The Bruins prevailed 96-91 in an exciting game.

The biggest stat of the game was bench points. The Bruins bench outscored the Eagles bench 26-0. Coach Miller credited the bench after the game saying "We got a big boost from the bench tonight. Dillon Harris had a stretch that really helped us get going again in the second half."

Shad Vander Hart was excellent again finishing with 25 points and an astounding 17 rebounds. Vander Hart's incredible game should not overshadow the great playing and effort of the whole team. Justin Skelton scored 15 points while shooting 50% from the field. Brandon Wilkins and Trevor Pittman both scored 14 points each with most of them coming in the second half. Every single Bruin player scored tonight, and every player made an immense difference in the win.

The Bruins now look forward to Saturday when they play region rival Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Florida. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. eastern standard time.
