Box Score The Bruins came in with a plan on how to slow down the quick offense of the Baptist University of Florida Eagles, and they executed well to win with a convincing 100-77 score. The Bruins now await the winner between Toccoa Falls College and Trinity College of Jacksonville to see who they will play in the region championship tomorrow.
"Our pressure today took away a lot of the open looks they had the last couple times we played against them," Head Coach Tony Miller said.
It took the Bruins a few minutes to score to start the game, but once they did, the offensive rhythm was found. They went on a 9-0 run and never trailed the rest of the game. Every time the Eagles would go on a small run, the Bruins answered right back. Though the Bruins were out-rebounded in the first half, the Bruins ability to knock down three-pointers kept them ahead. Justin Skelton had a great first half going 4-6 from beyond the arc. He led the Bruins with 16 points at halftime followed by an efficient 11 points from Shad Vander Hart. The Bruins went into halftime with a 47-36 lead.
The Bruins kept their foot on the pedal in the second half and stayed in control of the game. In the previous two time that the Bruins played the Eagles, it went down to the wire and even took overtime. That was not the case today. The Bruins forced nine turnovers in the half on defense and took it back the other way to score. The Bruins came away with a convincing 100-77 win to march on to the region championship game.Â
Justin Skelton led the Bruins with 29 points. Trevor Pittman, Brandon Wilkins, Shad Vander Hart, and Braxton Murray all scored double-digits today with buckets at the right times to extend the Bruins lead.
Now the Bruins wait to see who wins between Toccoa Falls College and Trinity College of Jacksonville in the other semifinal. "Both possible opponents tomorrow will be tough and physical. We'll have to come ready to battle," said Coach Miller.
Tipoff for the region championship is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. where the Bruins are looking for a three-peat.
