The Bruin women took the court on Saturday afternoon for a match against the Hiwassee College Tigers. The Bruins were coming off of a loss to Columbia College on Thursday night, and the team was looking to rebound after starting the season at 1-6.
From the opening tip, the Bruins looked as if they were on a mission, and the team played very well right from the beginning. Both sides of the ball stepped up their play. The defense limited second-chance points and open shots, while the offense generated a lot of easy layups and open shooting opportunities. As the game progressed, the Bruins found themselves with a comfortable lead as they continued to take advantage of their opportunities. Bruins' guard Trish Irving ran an excellent floor game as she orchestrated great offensive attacks on the basket.
"We showed a lot of maturity tonight," Coach LeViere said. "The girls really made great strides in every area offensively and defensively."
In the second half, the Bruins kept up the defensive pressure which forced the Tigers to turn the ball over several times. The Bruins were able to cut down on their own turnovers as the team made every possession count. Chalice Pack provided a spark to the offense as she contributed 12 points tonight for the Bruins. As the final buzzer sounded, the Bruins had captured their second win of the season in a 67-48 victory.
"We still have a lot to work on, but this is the most complete game we have played this year," Coach LeViere said. "I am very pleased with the effort tonight."
Kendra Jeffcott led all scorers for the Bruins with 16 points and Kim Speicker and Bre Bullard each scored in double figures. The win moves the Bruins to 2-6 on the season. The team will now have some time to rest and regain their strength as the Bruins will play their first home game of the season on November 27th against Emmanuel College.
