After suffering a tough 6-point loss to Point University on Friday night, The Bruin women took the court again on Saturday afternoon for a match with the Reinhardt University Eagles. The Eagles came into Saturday's game with a 1-1 record, and first year head coach Lindsey Huffman continues to help to build the program. The Eagles were coming off a strong 65-55 win over Southern Wesleyan University and looked to continue their winning ways against the Bruins.
From the opening tip, the Eagles pressured the Bruins and were able to play strong half-court defense throughout the first half. The Bruins struggled to get their offense going, as the Eagles defensive pressure continued to cause problems for the team. This defensive pressure forced the Bruins into multiple turnovers throughout the half, and 30 in the entire game. At the half, the Bruins were down 37-17.
"Turnovers continued to be a problem for us," Coach LeViere said. "We are improving, but we have to get better."
As the second half began, the Bruins continued to struggle against the defensive pressure they were facing from the Eagles. As the game wore on, the Eagles showed their dominance by keeping up the defensive pressure and completing scoring opportunities on the offensive end. When the final buzzer sounded, the Bruins dropped their fourth straight game in a 69-27 loss.
"We just have to put a complete game together to compete at this level," Coach LeViere said. "We have stretches where we play well, and we just have to put the whole game together."
The Bruins will look to get back on track as the team will work hard in practice over the next week. The next game for the Bruin women will be on Thursday night as they travel to Franklin Springs, Georgia for a matchup with Emmanuel College.
