Throughout the season, the Lady Bruins coaching staff has stressed the importance of ball control and possession. On this night against Toccoa Falls College, the Bruins would take possession of the ball and hardly give it back to the Eagles the entire game. “Possession, control and tempo, that is what we’ve been stressing a great deal in practice,” Coach Carmichael said. “Tonight we really did well in controlling the possession the whole game.”

From the opening kickoff, the Bruins quickly went on the offensive attack. Led by Rebecca Luttrell and Jenn Wise, the Bruins fired shot after shot on the net which was turned aside by Eagles goalie Rebecca Heath. The Eagles were managing to keep the Bruins at bay, until Jocelyn Reemtsma lobbed a beautiful shot from just outside the 18’ to notch her first goal of the year and put the Bruins up 1-0. That goal came in the 16th minute of the first half and gave the Bruins the lead.

As the second half began, the Bruins continued to control the pace of the game and maintained possession of the ball. The Bruins defense also stood strong as Toccoa Falls could only muster two shots on goal throughout the entire game. The Bruins would counter with 23 shots on the night, clearly asserting their offense prowess. Although the Bruins were firing several great shots, the team failed to capitalize on several close opportunities as several chances went just wide of the net keeping the game at 1-0. As the final buzzer sounded the Bruins found themselves the victors in a 1-0 match.
“We made great improvements tonight,” Bruins’ midfielder Jocelyn Reemtsma said. “The coaches have been pushing us to be better and I am proud of the way we played tonight.” The Bruins grabbed their second straight win and certainly benefited from the much-needed rest over this past week. Tori Anderson would grab her first clean sheet of the season as the defense stood its ground against the Eagles.

Equally as impressive for the Bruins play was in the crowd that attended the game. Over 1150 people showed up to cheer on the Bruins, with dozens more joining the game via webcast. “I am proud of the way our fans are supporting our teams,” Athletic Director Neal Ring said. “This was a great atmosphere for our ladies to play in tonight.” The Lady Bruins clearly fed off of the energy as the team played with great confidence against Toccoa Falls.
With the win, the Bruins improved to 2-4 on the season. The team has made tremendous strides in recent games, and looks to continue to improve as the season progresses. The ladies will have the weekend off before welcoming Johnson University on Monday.
