Box Score
The Bruins women's basketball team played their sixth road game in their last seven games as the team battled Toccoa Falls College on Friday night. The Bruins and Eagles had met earlier in the season with the Bruins winning handily 76-47 in Greenville. The Bruins were riding a two-game winning streak entering Friday night with victories over Columbia International and Barber Scotia. The team was playing in their second game in the last two days. The Toccoa Falls Eagles entered the game at 2-5 and were riding a three-game losing streak with their most recent coming to Warren Wilson College.
From the opening tip, the Bruins continued their dominant streak by opening up the scoring in the first half. Kendra Jeffcott sliced up the defense by driving through the lane for easy layups to keep the Bruins ahead. Despite their offensive progression, the Bruins couldn't seem to distance themselves far enough from the Eagles. TFC continued to battle back with short runs and capitalizing on BJU turnovers throughout the opening half. At the break, the Bruins had a slim 27-23.
"We really had to wake up from last night," Coach LeViere said. "We just had too many turnovers in the first half which kept them in the game."
In the second half, the Bruins relied on the post play of Brianna Delaney and Kourtney Hoelfer. The focus in the post allowed the Bruins to spread the floor for open opportunities for wing players Maggi Ford and Bre Bullard. The Bruins shored up their defense and made it difficult for the Eagles to get anything going offensively. The Bruins slowly began to build a lead after playing smart in the second half to get good looks. As the final buzzer sounded, the Bruins had won their third straight game with a 61-46 victory over Toccoa Falls.
"We played much better in the second half and I am happy we were able to get the win," Coach LeViere said. "This is a good win for us and now we'll just have to get ready for Truett-McConnell."
Kendra Jeffcott led all scorers with 17 points. The Bruins spread their scoring out as Brianna Delaney had 9 points and Bre Bullard and Maggi Ford each chipped in 7. With the win, the Bruins improve to 9-3 on the season. The Bruins will have a few days off before beginning a four-game home stand beginning with Truett-McConnell College on Tuesday night.
