From the opening kickoff, the Bruins played with energy and began to work the ball around and set up their offense. Both teams turned the ball over several times as the opening minute jitters were taking their toll in front of the over 1,000 fans at Alumni Stadium.

The Bruins eventually calmed their nerves and began to make several great runs on net. The team had struggled to generate open looks in recent weeks, but on this night the Bruins had 8 shots on goal in the first half. In the 23rd minute, Sarah Porch broke the scoreless season for the Bruins by netting a beautiful goal. She scored after receiving a beautiful assist from Lauren Peek and Isobel Johnston. Minutes later, Porch would return the favor and send a cross to Lauren Peek who netted her first goal of the season to go up 2-0. As the half ended, the Bruins had their first lead of the season.

"Tonight we played a lot more triangles and our formation worked well tonight," Forward Lauren Peek said. "Our chemistry is picking up from last year and we were able to communicate well on offense."

In the second half, the Bruins continued to pressure the net, but also played great defense to keep the Skyhawks grounded. Iwanowycz, Lehman and Tori Anderson did a great job of stopping every offensive challenge that Point University presented. As the game wore on, the Bruins became more and more confident that they were on the verge of their first victory of the 2013 season. The Bruins had several near-goals in the final minutes and as the final horn sounded the Bruins had captured their first win of the season 2-0.

"This game was huge for us," Coach Carmichael said. "We have had a couple of tough games and tonight we really challenged our players to work hard and keep improving. Especially as we head into conference play soon we knew we needed to turn things around and the strong effort really paid off for us tonight."

Sarah Porch and Lauren Peek each had 1 goal and 1 assist on the night while Isobel Johnston picked up 1 assist. Tori Anderson had her second clean sheet of the season as she made 6 saves on the night while facing 18 shots.

Next up, the Bruins women will travel to face Toccoa Falls College on Thursday night.
