Box Score
The Bruins women welcomed in the Reinhardt University Eagles on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins were coming off a heartbreaking double overtime loss to St. Andrews University on Thursday night. The Bruins have played a lot of minutes in the early part of the season as both of their first matches went into double overtime. The Eagles entered Saturday's match with a record of 2-1. Reinhardt had been undefeated until suffering a tough 3-2 loss against Brenau on Wednesday night. The sun was high and hot in the Greenville sky as the heat would definitely play a factor in this match.
From the opening kickoff the Eagles began to control possession and keep the ball near the Bruins net. The Bruins struggled to move the ball up the field as the team didn't generate a single shot on net throughout the first half. At the midway point of the half, the Bruins possessed the ball on the defensive end. Rachel Niarchos passed the ball back to Bruins' goalie Tori Anderson, but Anderson had trouble controlling the pass and the Eagles capitalized by netting the goal and taking a 1-0 lead. That goal would be the only one scored in the first half by either team as the half ended 1-0 Eagles.
"With the way we were playing in the first half, we were fortunate to only be down 1 goal," Coach Carmichael said. "We struggled a lot with possessing the ball and moving it up into the offensive third of the field."
In the second half, the Bruins play went from bad to worse as the Eagles continued to pressure the net with shots. Reinhardt used crisp passing and good positioning to be able to generate open looks against Bruins' goalie Tori Anderson. The Eagles scored three times in the second half, while the Bruins continued to struggle on offense. The final buzzer gave the Bruins their first regulation loss of the season in a 4-0 defeat.
"We have got to do a better job possessing and we just played sloppy," Coach Carmichael. "We just have to be more confident in our abilities and trust each other and get better positioning as we play."
The Bruins have failed to score a goal in each of their first three matches. The Bruins will play their next match on Tuesday night as they welcome in Point University on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
