Eagles Snap Lady Bruins Winning Streak 48-37

Team suffers tough road loss after dismal shooting performance against PCC

Box Score
The Bruins women's basketball team traveled to Florida on Saturday night for a matchup with the Pensacola Christian College Eagles. The two teams met last weekend with the Bruins capturing a 58-41 win in Greenville. The team has been on a four-game winning streak as of late, and looked to continue their winning ways against PCC. This would be no easy test as several Bruin starters were limited in minutes due to nagging injuries.

In the opening minutes, the Eagles rode the energy of their hometown crowd by jumping out to an early lead. The Bruins struggled to get anything going offensively as their shots refused to fall. The team was not able to stop the Eagles as PCC played with great intensity throughout the first half. The Bruins shot a mere 14% from the field in the first half and turned the ball over several times. The halftime buzzer came as a sweet relief for the Bruins as they looked to make some big adjustments trailing 28-18.

"A lot of things went wrong for us," Coach LeViere said. "We were too tentative with the ball and we let them set the tone for the game. We just played lousy and they played really well."

In the second half, the Bruins looked to get back into the game and establish some form of offensive production. The team was able to get to the free throw line, but the Bruins missed 14 free throws and shot just 33% from the line throughout the game. Things got a little brighter for the Bruins as Maggi Ford knocked down a 3 to cut the lead down to single digits with just over 5 minutes remaining. From there, the Eagles were able to hit clutch shots to keep the lead and several free throws iced the victory for the Eagles with a 48-37 loss.

"This really is one of the most disappointing losses for our program," Coach LeViere said. "I don't know if we took the game for granted or just were out of sync. Pensacola played a great game and they deserved to win based upon hustle and execution of their game plan."

With the loss the Bruins fall to 15-6 on the season. The team will be on the road again on Tuesday night as they travel to Asheville for a matchup with Warren Wilson College.
