The Bruins women played the second of their three game road trip on Thursday night against the Florida College Falcons. The Bruins were coming off a tough 75-45 loss to Emmanuel College on Monday night. The Falcons have struggled in the 2013 season with a 3-10 record and were in the midst of a five-game losing streak as they welcomed the Bruins to Temple Terrace, Florida. Both teams were looking to get back on track as the game began.
The Bruins established momentum early behind the slick shooting of Kim Spiecker who knocked down several shots to get the Bruins out in front. The team was able to move the ball very effectively and work together to gain open looks on offense. The defense for the Bruins was equally impressive as the team shut down the Falcons offense. As the half wore on, the Bruins lead became larger and larger. Finally the buzzer sounded to give the Bruins a comfortable 40-24 lead at the half.
"We ran well and that was a big factor in this one," Coach LeViere said. "We needed a good game to rebound from our game on Monday night. Overall we took good shots and were able to reverse the ball to get open looks."
In the second half, the Bruins picked up where they left off as the stellar shooting continued. The Bruins knocked down 14 three point shots on the night as the lead continued to grow. Four players scored in double figures for the Bruins and Kourtney Hoefler and Brianna Delaney controlled the post. By the midway point of the second half, the game was out of reach for the Falcons as Kim Spiecker and the Bruins offense continued to dominate in every aspect of the game. The final buzzer handed the Bruins a 93-71 win on the road.
"We were able to move the ball really well tonight and limit our turnovers," Coach LeViere said. "We rebounded extremely well and shot the ball well too which all added up to a great performance for us tonight. We were happy to get this win on the road."
Kim Spiecker led the way for the Bruins with 21 points. Kourtney Hoefler had 12 points, Kendra Jeffcott had 11 and Brianna Delaney chipped in 10. Overall the Bruins were able to outrebound the Falcons and limit Florida College on the offensive end. With the win, the Bruins improve to 12-5 on the season.
