Box Score On Friday night, the Bob Jones University Bruins women's soccer team walked off the field in disgust after being upset by Ohio Christian University 1-0. Their frustration showed in an onslaught of goals and great play on Saturday afternoon as the Bruins shutout Kentucky Christian University 6-0. "The team was very energized to play today after the loss last night," Coach Chris Carmichael said.
As the match began, the Bruins came out strong and asserted their dominance from the opening whistle. In the 3rd minute of play, Rebecca Luttrell sent a beautiful through pass to the feet of Paige Englehart who skipped it past the goalkeeper to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. Minutes later, Luttrell would break into the scoring column as she buried a beautiful shot to make it 2-0 Bruins.
With each passing minute, the Bruins squad became more and more confident as their combination play set up open opportunities in the attacking third. Goals by Natasha Walters and Paige Englehart allowed the Bruins a comfortable 4-0 lead at the half.
"Our rhythm of play, high possession rate and great combination play led to a lot of goal scoring opportunities," Coach Carmichael said.
In the second half, the Bruins continued to work their possession game and move towards the Knights net. Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball, Caitlyn Lehman and the Bruins defense played a strong match as they allowed the Knights to hardly challenge the goal. Near the midway point of the half, Caitlyn Lehman bent a floating shot into the back of the net to extend the Bruins lead to 5-0.
The team was firing on all cylinders as Anna Daulton continued her impressive play by notching the sixth goal for the Bruins as the team controlled the pace of play from start to finish en route to a 6-0 shutout of Kentucky Christian University.
"I was proud of the way the team stepped up today and played well," Coach Carmichael said. "KCU played with great spirit and worked very hard all throughout the match.
With the win, the Bruins climb to 4-1-1 on the season. The team will have some days to rest and recoup before opening a four-game home stand. Next up, the Bruins will welcome Toccoa Falls College on Friday night to Greenville.
