The Bruins picked up an important conference win
in the 6-0 victory over Trinity Baptist College.
The Bruins came into the match looking to bounce back after a 3-0 loss to St. Andrews University on Thursday night. This would be the first-ever meeting between the two women's soccer programs and the Bruins were looking to pick-up another conference win as they took the pitch at Alumni Stadium.

The team wasted little time getting going as Mimi Lozano blocked a Eagles defensive clearance and blasted a hard low shot into the back of the net to give the Bruins a 1-0 advantage. The team possessed well in the first half, as the Eagles were only able to have 1 shot on goal throughout the first 45 minutes.

In the 21st minute of play, Mimi Lozano sent a through pass to Sarah Herr who broke through the Eagles defense and buried the shot in the back of the net to make it 2-0 Bruins. The team continued to keep up the pressure as they were able to use good combination play to gain opportunities on frame. Despite outshooting the Eagles by a wide margin in the 1st half, the Bruins ended the first 45 only up 2-0.

"Our speed of play was too slow and we just needed to do a better job on the attacking side," Coach Carmichael said. "We needed to work the ball and create space, but overall we got the goals we needed and did well."

In the second half, the Bruins looked to put the game out of reach. The team had a near goal early on as Jenn Wise found herself alone in the box, but her shot sailed just wide of the net. The Bruins had several other chances with each shot failing to convert. Finally in the 59th minute Lozano struck again as she worked around the goalkeeper to score her 2nd goal of the match and put the Bruins up 3-0.

From there, the team unleashed offensively as Abby Davis scored back-to-back goals in a less than 60 second span and Leah Edwards bent home a beautiful shot to allow the Bruins to finish off the Eagles 6-0.

"Overall it was a good effort," Coach Carmichael said. "I would like to see us stronger in possession and we have some other things we need to tighten up. Trinity gave us a good match as they start to grow their program."

Mimi Lozano led the way for the Bruins with 2 goals and 1 assist while Abby Davis scored 2 goals. Leah Edwards and Sarah Herr each scored a goal and Allyson Jenkins picked up 1 assist. Bruins' goalie Jessica Baun completed the clean sheet while only making one save on the day as the Bruins outshot Trinity 17-1 throughout the match. The Bruins move to 2-0 in conference play and have outscored their conference opponents 14-0 in their first two games.

With the win, the Bruins climb to 3-4 on the season. The team will begin a three-game road trip over the course of the next few weeks. Next up, the Bruins will travel to Columbia, South Carolina on Tuesday night for a matchup with Columbia College.
