Box Score Julia Wright powered the Bruins with 22 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds as the Bob Jones University Lady Bruins rolled to a 95-52 win over Trinity College on Thursday afternoon. "This was a really good game for us coming off the break," head coach Mike LeViere said. "We did a good job of setting the tone from the very beginning and never looked back."
The Bruins started off the 2015-16 season strong before dropping some tough games at the midway point of the semester. The team responded by winning two of their last three going into the break to stand at 8-9 on the season. The team enjoyed some time touring Florida before getting ready for their two-game road trip. Their first opponent would be the Trinity College Tigers.
The Lady Bruins came out hot with back to back three's to open the scoring as the team moved the ball around offensively for open looks. Kendra Jeffcott did a great job of running the floor and the Bruins excelled in pushing the ball in transition to continue to build their lead. At the end of the first, the Bruins had a stretched to a comfortable 27-11 lead.
In the second quarter, the Bruins offense kept taking advantage of their opportunities to score. Maggi Ford helped to orchestrate the offense as the team worked the ball inside and out with great precision to open up lanes and shots for their players. Julia Wright seemingly couldn't miss for the Bruins as she knocked down shots to help build the lead. Defensively, the team forced the Tigers into difficult looks and didn't allow for second chance opportunities. At the half, the Bruins had a commanding 48-24 lead.
The second half produced much of the same for the Lady Bruins as the team continued to execute their gameplan well. Bridgette Gleed and Brianna Delaney provided excellent play in the post which opened up shooters on the outside. When the dust settled, the Bruins finished off Trinity College with a dominant 95-52 win.
"The whole team shot well overall," Coach LeViere said. "We ran the floor well, rebounded well and overall just played really well as a team. It's good to set the tone and we'll look to keep playing well going forward."
Julia Wright led the Bruins with 22 points as the team shot 36% from beyond the arc and 51% from the floor. The team controlled the rebounding margin and forced over 20 turnovers as the Bruins improved to 9-9 on the season. Next up, the Bruins will battle Florida College on Saturday afternoon.
