The Bruins woman's volleyball team stretched their winning streak to 7 in a row as the team won their last two home matches for this inaugural season beating the Johnson University Suns and the Trinity Baptist College Eagles in three matches each.

"I was very pleased with how we came out and played," Head Coach Vickie Denny said. "I got to try some different combinations with people off the bench and our seniors. I was pleased with the whole effort offensively and defensively."

The Bruins came into the match looking to solidify their #1 rank in the NCCAA DII South Region. The team had a perfect 9-0 record in region play and stood at 20-8 on the season. In the first match of the day, the Bruins would welcome the Johnson University of Florida Suns.

In the opening set, the Bruins came out strong and jumped out to an early lead. Kendra Jeffcott and Lauren Johnson served a total of nine points as the serving, setting and kill game was strong for the Bruins offense. The team was also able to capitalize off the Suns' mistakes which allowed the Bruins to easily take the first set 25-8.

Amber Smith provided the early boost for the Bruins in the second set as she had twelve serves in a row as the Bruins stretched their lead 17-4 with Jeffcott and Saleena Walker hitting multiple kills. The team continued to ride momentum as they put away the second set 25-6 over the Suns.

In the third and final set of the first match, the Bruins again got a quick lead. But the Suns refused to go down without a fight as they rallied to take their first lead of the match 7-5. But Saleena Walker and Lauren Johnson didn't allow the Bruins to trail for long as both had solid serve runs and Kendra Jeffcott threw some big blocks! Soon, the Bruins had retaken the lead and continued to ride their confidence into winning the third set 25-16 and sweeping the match 3-0.

The Bruins welcomed Trinity Baptist College for the second match in their home doubleheader. The Bruin faithful were out in full voice as the team looked to finish the regular season undefeated in region play.

In the first set against the Eagles, Saleena Walker, Kendra Jeffcott and Erin Jarvis all had serving streaks of at least four points. These added up quickly and before the eagles had a chance to take flight the Bruins won the first set 25-9.

The Bruins didn't slow down in the second set as the team hit their serves hard and Kendra Jeffcott showed dominance on the net with her blocking. The Eagles got a few more points than the first set, but not enough to prove a threat as the Bruins took the second set 25-12.

In the last set of the night the Bruins' success once again rode on the shoulders of a strong service attack. Kirstin Christmas, Erin Jarvis and Amber Smith all had significant runs to help the team build a big lead. Despite the Eagles run, the Bruins closed out the set 25-12 and won the match 3-0.

"We served really tough tonight," coach Denny said. "We took away their offense and that was key."

Kendra Jeffcott and Erin Jarvis led the team with 13 kills apiece. Jeffcott also led the team with 11 blocks on the night while Rachel Tubbs had 45 assists. The team honored their three seniors as the fans gave one final show of appreciation to Amber Smith, Katelyn MacDowell and Kendra Jeffcott who were playing their final home match of their Bruins volleyball career. The team also had a special banner raising ceremony to celebrate Coach Vickie Denny's 1,000th career win.

With back to back wins today, the Bruins are now 22-8 on the season and 11-0 in region play. Next up, the team will be on the road on Thursday night as they battle Wesleyan College at 6 p.m.
