Kayla Romeiser led the way for the Bruins offense as she scored a hat trick to help lead the Lady Bruins to a 5-0 win over Trinity Baptist College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. "Everything went our way today," Romeiser said. "We did a great job of controlling the game with a high possession rate and our passes were accurate."
The two teams met earlier in the season in Florida as BJU won a very close match 2-0. With regional playoff seeding implications on the line, the Bruins were ready to take the field for Saturday's match. The team came out firing on all cylinders on Saturday afternoon as the Bruins outshot Trinity 21 to 11 throughout the match while notching 7 corner kicks compared to only one corner for Trinity Baptist College.
It didn't take long for the Bruins to get on the board as Abby Davis was awarded a penalty kick after getting tripped up in the box. Anna Daulton made a well-placed penalty shot past goalkeeper Tesia Keith to give the Bruins a 1-0 advantage.
As the game went on, the Bruins had several additional scoring opportunities but were unable to convert. In the 42nd minute, Kayla Romeiser added to the Bruins lead as she scored on a rebound opportunity in front of the net to make it 2-0. Romeiser wasn't done as she scored again just minutes later to give the Bruins a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.
"I saw the plays happening before everyone else and I tried to put myself in the right position to score off a possible deflection," Romeiser said.
In the second half, the Bruins came out strong again with good possession play as they worked the ball into the attacking third. Defensively, the team also did a great job of keeping the Eagles attackers from getting good looks on frame. With about 10 minutes remaining in the match, Kayla Romeiser completed her hat trick as she scored again on a rebound off a deflection to make it 4-0.
The Bruins continued to press the box as Miriam Lozano put the exclamation point on the win with a goal in the final minute of the match off the assist from Abby Davis as the team defeated region-rival Trinity Baptist College 5-0.
"We knew we had to come out and control the rhythm and all aspects of the game," Coach Chris Carmichael said. "The key for us in the next match will be for us to stay urgent and to keep attacking. Keeping possession of the ball and playing fast."
With the win, the Bruins move to 7-4 on the season while being 4-0 in region play. The team will be on the road for three games next week. First up, the Bruins will look to secure their #1 seed for the region playoffs as they battle Toccoa Falls College in Georgia on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
