Royals Rally to Defeat Lady Bruins 63-48

Box Score
Despite leading for three of four quarters, the Lady Bruins suffered a tough road loss as Warner University rallied to win the game 63-48 on Friday night in Lake Wales, Florida.

"It was a tough game for us tonight," Bruins Coach Mike LeViere said. "We worked really hard and played good defense and had good rebounding but we couldn't overcome poor shooting and our turnovers."

The team was coming off back to back wins as the team had victories over Johnson University and Washington Adventist University. They traveled to Florida for two straight road games.

Bhrianna Jackson got the Bruins going with two straight baskets to spark a 12-4 run to start the game. The team was able to work the ball inside and get to the free throw line while playing suffocating defense as they finished the first quarter up 16-6.

In the second quarter, the Royals began to chip away at the Bruins lead. But the Bruins were able to keep the upper hand as they knocked down several shots to take a 29-20 lead into halftime.

The Royals came out in the second half and scored back to back baskets as they edged closer to taking the lead. The Bruins offense began to struggle as shots weren't falling. Still, they continued to keep the lead and closed out the 3rd quarter up 38-35.

With the lead within their grasp, the Royals again came out strong to start the final quarter as they used a 15-2 run to overtake the Bruins and build a double-digit lead. The Bruins tried to make a comeback but each shot was matched by the Royals as Warner completed the comeback with a 63-48 win.

"We had the opportunity to put the game away and we weren't able to do it," Coach LeViere said. "We let them hang around and didn't shoot well from the free throw line. That being said, we were competing with a good team at this point in the season with the young team we have which is a positive thing."

Bhrianna Jackson and Hannah Tompkins each had 10 points while Sarah Thomsen chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Bruins dominated the rebounding margin 43-23, but 25 costly turnovers ended up being the difference as the team falls to 2-2 on the season.

Next up, the Lady Bruins will finish their Florida road trip tomorrow afternoon as they play Johnson and Wales University of Florida at 2 p.m.
